Evolution

Politoed, the Frog Pokémon. Politoed is a Water type Pokémon, and it evolves from Poliwhirl traded while holding a King's Rock. Politoed is one of the final evolutions for Poliwhirl, the other being Poliwrath.

Gold, Silver and Crystal

Politoed debuted in Gold and Silver. It's #186 in the National Dex. There is now breeding, so Politoed can either be male or female, and it’s in the Water 1 egg group. Politoed can be Shiny as well. Poliwhirl can now evolve into Politoed, a Water type, by trading it with a King’s Rock attached, instead of only Poliwrath, as it was in Red, Blue and Yellow.
Politoed cannot be caught in Gold, Silver and Crystal. You must evolve a Poliwhirl to obtain Politoed.

Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald

Politoed cannot be caught in Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald; you have to trade it from FireRed or LeafGreen. In Ruby and Sapphire, Pokémon got Abilities, and Politoed’s is either Water Absorb or Damp. Water Absorb recovers 25% HP when Politoed’s hit by a Water type move, and Damp prevents Exploding or Self Destructing in a battle.

FireRed and LeafGreen

Politoed cannot be caught in FireRed or LeafGreen. You must evolve a Poliwhirl to obtain Politoed. You can then breed Politoed and trade a Poliwag, Poliwhirl or Politoed over to Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald if you want.

Diamond, Pearl and Platinum

Politoed cannot be caught in Diamond, Pearl or Platinum. You must evolve a Poliwhirl to obtain Politoed. Politoed got a different sprite whether it was a male or female in these games too. If you migrate a Politoed from any of the Advance games, you’ll find Politoed in the Pond area of the Pal Park.
